The Introduction to Engineering camp at SMU Lyle School of Engineering offers middle school students a hands-on exploration of foundational engineering concepts. Participants engage in carefully designed activities and projects that mirror the engineering design process, gaining exposure to general processes and topics in electrical, mechanical, civil and environmental, and computer science. The curriculum is developed by CIEE faculty and staff, with support and mentorship from SMU Lyle Engineering students and other DFW college science and engineering students. Through these interactive team projects, students develop problem-solving skills and a deeper understanding of integrated STEM fields.
A typical day runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and includes curriculum and projects, all materials, lunch, and snacks.
This camp is designed for rising 7th and 8th-grade students with little to no prior exposure to engineering, designing, or integrated STEM programs.
