The UT Dallas Computer Science Deep-dive AI Workshop is an 8-week intensive program designed for advanced high school students. Participants will engage in cutting-edge computational topics, learning advanced coding and data analysis skills, and applying them to real-life projects. The workshop covers foundational AI and machine learning concepts, including Python programming, data analysis tools like NumPy and pandas, and various machine learning models such as decision trees and neural networks. Students will also explore deep neural networks using TensorFlow, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN), and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), along with model evaluation techniques. The program culminates in an end-to-end AI/ML project using real-world data, where students choose a domain like sports, healthcare, finance, social media, or climate to build, evaluate, and visualize their models. This workshop is taught by UT Dallas doctorate and graduate students, with faculty lead Dr. Anurag Nagar typically teaching at least one session per week. Upon completion, students receive a camp certificate and can request a write-up/recommendation letter based on their performance.
A typical day runs from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday, with an hour-long lunch break. Students are supervised from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
This program is ideal for passionate and highly motivated advanced-level high school students (ideally finishing 10th and 11th grade) who are at least 15 years old by the start date and are eager to delve deep into AI with minimal guidance.
