Students are integrated into actual university research labs, working on funded projects and often co-authoring publications and winning international science competitions.
The UT Dallas - George A. Jeffries NanoExplorers Summer Research Program is an immersive 8-week non-residential program designed for high school students interested in nanotechnology and materials science. Participants engage in original research within faculty mentors' laboratories, gaining hands-on experience and developing critical scientific skills. Students are treated as integral lab members, contributing to actual funded research programs. Activities include conducting experiments, learning proper research techniques and lab safety, and exploring various STEM fields such as natural science, mathematics, engineering, computer science, and behavioral and brain science. The program culminates in a symposium where students present their summer research work. Many alumni have gone on to top universities, co-authored scientific publications, and won international awards, showcasing the program's impact on fostering future scientists and engineers.
Participants are expected to work at least 25 hours per week in their assigned faculty mentor's laboratory, conducting original research and learning various lab procedures and techniques.
This program is ideal for high school students in 10th through 12th grades who are passionate about STEM and aspire to pursue careers as scientists or engineers through hands-on research.
