Students contribute to real ongoing computer science research and produce tangible outputs such as reports, applications, or simulations, gaining invaluable research experience and potential publications.
The UT Dallas Computer Science Research Program offers high school students intensive research internships in CS labs or guided research workshops. Participants gain exposure to computer science research, data science, machine learning, and data analysis through hands-on projects and mentorship in a university setting. In the intensive research internship track, students work closely with UT faculty and graduate students on tasks such as studying research papers, conducting simulations, and developing applications or tools. The Summer Research Workshops function like mini-college courses, covering topics like quantum computing, programming, and data science, culminating in a final project or research paper presentation. Students develop critical thinking and research skills, preparing them for future academic and career success in STEM fields. All participants receive a Summer Internship T-shirt, a completion certificate, and an experience letter. Students who perform impressively may also request a recommendation letter.
For the 8-week Deep-dive AI Workshop, students attend Monday to Friday from 9:30am-4pm with an hour lunch break, with supervision provided from 9am to 4:30pm.
This program is ideal for passionate and highly motivated advanced-level high school students (ideally finishing 10th and 11th grade, age 15+ by start date) who are eager to delve deep into research with minimal guidance.
